Johnny Depp could be returning as Captain Jack Sparrow in the highly anticipated sixth instalment of Pirates of the Caribbean, giving fans fresh hope of seeing the iconic character back on screen.
The latest update comes from franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who confirmed that he is currently in discussions with Depp while work continues on the screenplay for the next movie. Bruckheimer said the team is “talking to Johnny” and working on the script, adding that he hopes they can bring the project to fruition.
The comments have sparked excitement among fans because Depp’s return has been the subject of speculation for years. However, despite the renewed talks, his return has not yet been officially confirmed. Reports indicate that the script is still being developed and that Depp’s involvement will depend partly on how the role is ultimately written.
Depp played Jack Sparrow in all five previous Pirates of the Caribbean films, beginning with The Curse of the Black Pearl in 2003. The character became one of the actor’s most recognisable roles and a defining figure in the Disney franchise.
The sixth movie is expected to introduce a new direction for the franchise while potentially bringing back familiar characters. Margot Robbie has also been linked to the project, with reports suggesting the new film could function as a soft reboot rather than simply continuing the previous storyline.
For now, fans may have to wait a little longer before Captain Jack Sparrow officially sets sail again. The screenplay remains in development, and Bruckheimer’s latest comments confirm that discussions with Depp are underway—but a final casting announcement has yet to be made.
If the deal is completed, Depp’s return would mark one of the most anticipated Hollywood comebacks in recent years and could give the long-awaited Pirates of the Caribbean 6 a major boost in global interest.
