‘Heroes’ and ‘Nashville’ Actress Hayden Panettiere Dies at 36

American actress Hayden Panettiere, best known for her roles in Heroes and Nashville, has died at the age of 36. Panettiere’s death was confirmed by her representative in a statement issued on behalf of her family. Her father, Skip Panettiere, described her as an “incredible light” who brought love and joy to her family, friends and millions of fans around the world.

The actress died on Sunday, August 16, 2026. Authorities have not disclosed a cause of death, and reports indicate that the circumstances surrounding her passing are under investigation.

Panettiere began her acting career as a child and went on to become a familiar face in Hollywood. She gained international recognition as Claire Bennet, the cheerleader with regenerative abilities, in NBC’s hit superhero drama Heroes. She later starred as country singer Juliette Barnes in Nashville, a role that earned her two Golden Globe nominations.

Her film credits included Remember the Titans, Scream 4 and Scream 6, while she also lent her voice to animated and video-game projects. Her final acting role was in the 2026 psychological thriller Sleepwalker.

Beyond her acting career, Panettiere had spoken openly about difficult periods in her personal life. In her memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, released earlier this year, she discussed her experiences with postpartum depression, addiction and recovery.

Panettiere is survived by her daughter, Kaya, whom she had with former heavyweight boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko, as well as her parents. Her younger brother, actor Jansen Panettiere, died in 2023.

Her family has asked for privacy as they mourn her death.

Panettiere’s passing at just 36 has prompted an outpouring of tributes from fans and colleagues who remember her for the memorable characters she brought to television and film over a career spanning more than three decades.
