El-Rufai Files Fresh ₦10 Billion Lawsuit Against ICPC

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has filed a fresh ₦10 billion lawsuit against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), escalating the legal battle between the former governor and the anti-corruption agency.

The suit, filed before the Federal High Court, challenges actions allegedly taken by the ICPC against El-Rufai. The former governor is seeking ₦10 billion in damages, arguing that the commission’s conduct violated his rights and caused harm to his reputation.

The latest legal action adds a new chapter to the ongoing dispute between El-Rufai and the anti-graft agency, which has been involved in investigations and legal proceedings related to issues arising from his tenure as governor of Kaduna State.

While details of the claims contained in the suit are yet to be fully disclosed, El-Rufai is asking the court to determine whether the actions of the ICPC were lawful and in line with constitutional provisions.

The ICPC has not publicly responded to the fresh lawsuit at the time of filing.

The case is expected to attract significant public and political attention given El-Rufai’s prominent role in Nigerian politics and his recent involvement in national political discussions.

Legal observers say the court proceedings could provide further clarity on the powers of anti-corruption agencies and the rights of public officials who become subjects of investigations.

With the matter now before the court, both parties are expected to present their arguments as the judiciary determines the merits of the claims and the reliefs sought by the former Kaduna State governor.
