NYSC Suspends 2026 Batch B Stream I Orientation Course in Niger State Over Camp Renovation

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced the temporary suspension of the 2026 Batch B Stream I Orientation Course for prospective corps members posted to Niger State, citing ongoing renovation work at the state’s orientation camp.

The development was disclosed in an official notice shared by the scheme, which informed affected prospective corps members and the general public that the orientation exercise would no longer proceed as initially scheduled in the state until further notice.

According to the NYSC, the decision was made to allow for the completion of critical renovation works currently being carried out at the orientation camp. The management assured prospective corps members that alternative arrangements would be communicated promptly once plans are finalized.

The agency stated that those affected by the suspension would be contacted on short notice with details regarding where and when they are expected to report for their orientation programme. It also expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to prospective corps members and their families, acknowledging the disruption to their plans.

The suspension comes months after significant damage was recorded at the Niger State NYSC Orientation Camp located in Paiko, Paikoro Local Government Area. Earlier in 2026, a powerful windstorm reportedly destroyed several key facilities within the camp, including male hostel blocks, the multipurpose hall, kitchen facilities, and staff quarters.

Following the incident, Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago directed the immediate rehabilitation and reconstruction of the affected infrastructure to ensure the camp meets the standards required for hosting corps members.

The orientation camp serves as a critical facility for the NYSC programme, providing accommodation, training grounds, and administrative support for newly mobilized graduates undergoing the mandatory three-week orientation exercise. The renovation project is expected to improve safety, comfort, and overall operational efficiency for future participants.

The 2026 Batch B Stream I Orientation Course officially commenced nationwide on June 10, 2026, and was originally scheduled to conclude on June 30, 2026. However, prospective corps members assigned to Niger State will now have to await further directives from the NYSC regarding their deployment and orientation arrangements.

While the postponement may cause temporary uncertainty for affected participants, the NYSC maintains that the decision was necessary to ensure that corps members are received into a safe and properly equipped environment. The scheme reiterated its commitment to keeping all affected individuals informed as soon as new arrangements are finalized.

For many prospective corps members, the announcement serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining adequate infrastructure for one of Nigeria’s most significant youth development programmes. As renovation work continues, attention will now focus on how quickly the camp can be restored and when affected corps members will be able to commence their orientation activities.

The NYSC has advised all affected prospective corps members to remain attentive to official communication channels for updates and further instructions regarding the rescheduled orientation exercise.
