Iraqi Armed Groups Claim Drone Attacks Near Baghdad as Regional Tensions Escalate

Rising instability across the Middle East has taken another turn, as Iraqi armed factions have claimed responsibility for a series of drone attacks targeting key locations in and around Baghdad.

On Sunday evening, media channels affiliated with the so-called “Islamic Resistance” groups reported that fighters had launched drone strikes on the Victoria military base located within Baghdad International Airport. While official confirmation remains limited, local security sources also indicated that two separate drone attacks struck a logistics support camp west of the Iraqi capital within a short span of time.

One of the factions, Saraya Awliya al-Dam, went further by claiming responsibility for additional shelling operations reportedly carried out in neighboring countries, including Kuwait, Jordan, and Syria. These claims, if verified, would mark a significant expansion of the conflict beyond Iraq’s borders.

Another influential group, Harakat al-Nujaba, issued a direct warning to Donald Trump, vowing to target American interests, military bases, and energy infrastructure across the region. The threat comes amid heightened tensions following strong rhetoric from Washington.

Earlier, Trump had warned that Iran would face severe consequences if it failed to reach an agreement or reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz within a set deadline. His remarks have further fueled fears of a broader regional escalation.

The developments are unfolding against the backdrop of an ongoing conflict that began on February 28, when joint military operations by the United States and Israel targeted Iranian positions. Since then, the situation has rapidly deteriorated, with thousands reportedly killed or injured in Iran.

In response, Tehran has launched waves of missiles and drones toward Israeli targets while also striking what it describes as U.S.-linked interests in several Arab nations. These actions have led to casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure, drawing strong condemnation from affected countries.

As tensions continue to rise, the latest attacks in Iraq highlight the growing risk of the conflict spreading further across the region. With multiple actors now involved and threats escalating on all sides, the prospect of a wider confrontation remains a serious concern for global security.
