Abubakar Malami Picks ADC Governorship Form Ahead of 2027 Kebbi Election

Former Attorney General of the Federation and ex-Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has officially obtained the governorship nomination form of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signaling his intention to contest in the 2027 governorship election in Kebbi State.

Malami announced his decision through a statement shared on his social media platforms, explaining that his move into the governorship race was driven by growing concerns over the state of governance and worsening living conditions in Kebbi.

According to him, the state is currently facing deep-rooted challenges ranging from insecurity and poverty to declining education standards, inadequate healthcare services, and widespread economic hardship.

The former minister said he could no longer remain silent while residents continue to grapple with what he described as one of the most severe governance and humanitarian crises in the country.

In outlining his concerns, Malami pointed to alarming social and economic indicators within the state. He claimed that more than 67 percent of children between the ages of six and 15 in Kebbi are currently out of school, highlighting the scale of the education crisis affecting the region.

He also cited figures suggesting that over 88 percent of children in the state live in multidimensional poverty, reflecting broader issues tied to income deprivation, poor access to education, healthcare challenges, and low living standards.

Malami raised additional concerns about the state’s healthcare system, particularly maternal health. According to him, maternal mortality remains unacceptably high in many communities, while several rural areas still lack access to quality antenatal care and other essential health services.

Security was another major issue highlighted in his statement. The former attorney general alleged that communities across Kebbi continue to face persistent threats from banditry and kidnapping, with many farmers abandoning farmlands due to insecurity.

He argued that the security crisis is not only threatening lives but also damaging local economic activity, agricultural productivity, and business confidence.

Malami accused the current administration of focusing on misplaced priorities while residents struggle with worsening insecurity and hardship. In what he described as a “State of Emergency on Misgovernance” in Kebbi State, he pledged to prioritise reforms in security, education, healthcare, agriculture, and youth empowerment if elected governor in 2027.

He said his governorship ambition is rooted in service, accountability, and sustainable development, promising a new leadership approach focused on measurable results rather than political rhetoric.

Malami also called on residents of Kebbi State to support what he described as a vision for rebuilding the state into a safer, more economically stable, and more prosperous society. His entry into the race adds a major political figure to the growing list of aspirants expected to shape the political landscape ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
