British pop star Dua Lipa has filed a $15 million lawsuit against electronics giant Samsung Electronics, accusing the company of using her image in a global television marketing campaign without her consent or compensation.
According to court filings submitted on Friday, the singer alleges that Samsung prominently featured a photograph of her face on promotional materials and television packaging as part of a mass advertising campaign launched in early 2025.
The lawsuit claims the image was used worldwide to market Samsung televisions, creating the impression that Dua Lipa had endorsed the products when no such agreement existed. In the legal complaint, Lipa argues that the use of her likeness was carried out without her knowledge, approval, or any form of payment.
Her legal team stated that the singer had no control over how the image was used and was not consulted before the campaign was launched. The filing further claims that Lipa would not have agreed to the commercial use of the image under those circumstances.
At the center of the dispute is a photograph reportedly taken backstage at the 2024 Austin City Limits Music Festival, which the lawsuit says is owned by Lipa. Her team alleges that Samsung incorporated the image into advertising assets, including product packaging and marketing displays, despite lacking authorization to do so.
According to the complaint, once Lipa became aware of the campaign, her representatives contacted Samsung requesting that the company stop using the image. However, the lawsuit alleges that the company refused to comply and responded dismissively to her concerns.
Lipa’s legal team argues that Samsung financially benefited from the unauthorized use of her image by creating a false association between the singer and its products. The complaint includes examples of consumer comments posted online, suggesting that some customers believed the singer had officially endorsed the televisions.
In some cases, fans reportedly indicated that seeing Dua Lipa’s image on the packaging influenced their purchasing decisions. Based on these claims, the lawsuit accuses Samsung of copyright infringement, violation of publicity rights, and false endorsement.
The singer is seeking at least $15 million in damages, in addition to profits allegedly earned by Samsung as a result of the disputed campaign. Her legal team also argues that Samsung violated multiple laws protecting celebrity image rights, including California right of publicity law, federal false endorsement provisions under the Lanham Act, and trademark protections.
The case highlights growing legal scrutiny around celebrity image rights, brand endorsements, and the commercial use of likenesses in global advertising campaigns.
If successful, the case could have broader implications for celebrity branding, intellectual property enforcement, and corporate marketing practices worldwide.
