A 32-year-old Bank of America vice president, Erin Piacenti, has been identified as the woman who was fatally stabbed during a daytime attack in New York City’s Times Square.
Piacenti was attacked on Monday, August 31, 2026, in one of the busiest areas of Manhattan. Police said the incident appeared to be a random and unprovoked attack.
According to authorities, a woman allegedly armed with kitchen knives attacked two people near 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue at about 4:30 p.m. A 68-year-old man was stabbed and survived, while Piacenti suffered fatal injuries. She was taken to a nearby hospital but later died from her wounds.
Police later confronted the female suspect after the attacks. She was fatally shot by officers after allegedly moving toward them with knives. Authorities have not indicated that Piacenti knew her attacker, reinforcing the preliminary assessment that the attack was random.
Piacenti was a vice president at Bank of America and lived in Chester, New Jersey. She was also a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where she completed her undergraduate studies in 2016, and later attended Fordham Law School, graduating in 2021.
Reports also indicate that Piacenti had recently celebrated her second wedding anniversary earlier in August. Her death has sent shockwaves through her professional and personal circles, coming in the middle of an ordinary afternoon in one of New York City’s most recognizable locations.
The NYPD is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the stabbing. Piacenti’s death adds another tragic chapter to a violent incident that unfolded in a crowded tourist district in broad daylight.
Police have identified Piacenti as the deceased victim, while the second victim remains hospitalized. The case remains under investigation as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the attack.
