Tinubu Assures Nigerians of Security and Economic Progress at Interfaith Ramadan Gathering

Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reassured Nigerians that the country will not allow forces seeking to destabilize the nation to threaten its unity, peace, or sovereignty.

The president gave the assurance on Monday evening while hosting religious and traditional leaders for an interfaith breaking of the fast during the holy month of Ramadan at the State House Abuja.

Speaking at the gathering, Tinubu acknowledged the important role religious and traditional leaders play in maintaining harmony and guiding communities toward peace and moral responsibility. He emphasized that despite ongoing security challenges, the country remains determined to defeat threats posed by terrorist groups.

According to the president, the current security challenges reflect the desperation of extremist groups that are increasingly under pressure from security forces. He assured Nigerians that the government remains committed to defeating such threats and protecting the country’s stability.

Tinubu also used the occasion to speak about the state of Nigeria’s economy, expressing confidence that the country is gradually recovering from the difficulties it faced when his administration took office. He noted that the economic situation has begun to improve and said the government has taken steps that helped stabilize the country’s finances.

The president explained that when his administration assumed office, the economic situation was extremely challenging. However, he said Nigeria has managed to overcome those difficulties and move toward a more stable economic path. He pointed out that pension payments are gradually improving and added that government reforms have helped prevent a deeper financial crisis.

Tinubu further stated that state governments are now in a stronger position financially, noting that governors no longer need to depend on emergency borrowing simply to pay workers’ salaries.

Looking ahead, the president reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to investing in key sectors that will drive long-term development. He highlighted agriculture and education as two priority areas that will receive increased attention in order to secure a better future for coming generations.

He also encouraged Nigerians not to lose hope, assuring citizens that his government remains focused on building a safer, more prosperous country.

Earlier at the event, the Yahaya Abubakar expressed appreciation to the president for bringing together leaders from Nigeria’s major religions for the interfaith gathering. He described the event as a strong symbol of unity and prayed for peace, guidance, and national stability.

The Etsu Nupe attended the event representing the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and its president, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar.

Also speaking at the gathering was Daniel Okoh, who represented Stephen Baba-Panya. He assured the president that Christian leaders remain committed to supporting efforts aimed at strengthening the nation’s economy and improving security.

The interfaith event brought together religious leaders and traditional rulers from Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, reflecting a broader message of unity and cooperation during a time when the country continues to confront security and economic challenges.
