IGP Olatunji Disu Vows to Reclaim Kwara Communities from Criminals During First Operational Visit

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Ridwan Disu, has assured residents of Kwara State that security agencies are intensifying operations to reclaim communities affected by criminal activities.

Disu made the pledge on Monday during his first operational visit to the state since his appointment as the head of the Nigeria Police Force. The visit took place in Ilorin, where the police chief met with security stakeholders and officers serving in the state.

During the engagement, the IGP emphasized that the police and other security agencies are determined to restore peace in areas affected by banditry and violent crimes. He assured residents that ongoing operations would be strengthened and that additional operational bases would be established to improve security coverage across the state.

Addressing officers, Disu urged them to intensify their efforts and remain committed to the mission of protecting communities. He stressed that criminal groups must not be allowed to take control of towns and villages, adding that security agencies would continue working to reclaim affected areas.

The police chief explained that his visit was aimed at reinforcing ongoing security operations while boosting the morale of officers tasked with combating crime. He also called on residents to actively support law enforcement agencies by providing credible and timely intelligence that could help identify criminal hideouts and prevent attacks.

Disu further cautioned against ethnic profiling, warning that criminal activities should not be linked to any particular ethnic group. According to him, many law-abiding citizens, including members of the Fulani community, have been cooperating with security agencies by sharing valuable information that has helped in past operations.

He acknowledged the role of local intelligence networks and praised individuals who have assisted security forces in their efforts to track down criminal elements. Representatives from the Fulani community present at the meeting also pledged continued cooperation with the police, emphasizing their commitment to peaceful coexistence with other communities.

They assured authorities that they would continue to provide intelligence that could help security agencies dismantle criminal networks operating in the region.

Also speaking during the visit, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, said the presence of the IGP had boosted the morale of officers working to maintain security in the state. He noted that the visit had strengthened ongoing operations and demonstrated the police leadership’s commitment to tackling insecurity in Kwara.

The commissioner added that officers in the state were encouraged by the IGP’s support and remained dedicated to protecting lives and property across the state.
