Residents of Offa, a major town in Kwara State, were gripped by fear late Thursday night after powerful explosions tore through parts of the community, damaging buildings and sparking widespread panic. The incident occurred just hours after U.S. President Donald Trump announced American airstrikes targeting ISIS militants in Nigeria, raising fresh questions and concerns among locals.
According to eyewitness accounts, the explosions struck two separate locations in Offa. One blast affected residential buildings around the Eid area of the town, while another was reported near Solid Worth Hotel, located just a few minutes’ walk from the first site. The force of the explosions shattered structures and sent shockwaves through nearby neighborhoods.
The sudden blasts caused residents to flee their homes in confusion, with many gathering on the streets in the middle of the night, trying to understand what had happened. Some described hearing a loud bang followed by thick smoke, while others said the intensity of the explosion made them fear a larger security threat.
Although no official confirmation has yet been issued regarding the cause of the incident, reports circulating locally suggest a suspected drone strike. Authorities have not released details on casualties or the extent of the damage, as investigations are still ongoing.
The incident has heightened anxiety in Offa and surrounding areas, with residents calling on security agencies and government officials to urgently clarify the situation and reassure the public. As uncertainty lingers, many in the community remain on edge, hoping for swift answers and measures to prevent further unrest.
