The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested Lagos socialite and luxury-goods dealer Afolabi Kazeem Michael, popularly known as KC Luxury, following the seizure of 184.5 kilogrammes of cocaine from a courier company in Lagos.
The NDLEA described the operation as the largest cocaine seizure from a courier firm in its history. The agency said the consignment had a street value of about $27.7 million and was allegedly destined for the United Kingdom, other parts of Europe and Asia.
According to NDLEA Chairman Buba Marwa, investigators launched a wider operation after the cocaine shipment was intercepted. The investigation, conducted with the cooperation of the logistics company involved, led to the arrest of two suspects, including KC Luxury and a logistics company employee identified as Lawal Kehinde.
Marwa said KC Luxury was identified by investigators as an alleged Nigerian coordinator in the trafficking network. The agency said he presented himself publicly as a businessman and social media personality involved in gold, jewellery and luxury goods.
Investigators allegedly linked the suspect to a cocaine trafficking route running from South America through Nigeria to destinations in Europe and Asia.
The NDLEA said KC Luxury was arrested on August 13 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, where he was allegedly attempting to leave Nigeria on a business-class flight to Paris.
The second suspect, Lawal Kehinde, was identified as an employee of the logistics company through which the consignment was processed. According to the NDLEA, investigators found that Kehinde allegedly maintained a sustained relationship with the Nigerian coordinator of the cartel and processed consignments for onward shipment.
The agency said the operation demonstrates the growing use of Nigeria as a transit route for international drug trafficking and warned individuals attempting to conceal illicit activities behind luxury lifestyles and social media influence.
“This agency will find you,” Marwa said, stressing that the NDLEA would continue tracking suspected traffickers regardless of their social status or attempts to leave the country.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to identify other members of the alleged international network and establish the full extent of their operations.
It is important to note that the allegations against KC Luxury remain allegations at this stage. His arrest and the NDLEA’s claims do not amount to a criminal conviction, and he is entitled to due process under Nigerian law.
The seizure nevertheless represents a major development in the NDLEA’s efforts to disrupt international drug trafficking networks operating through Nigeria.
