The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said that the Federal Government’s ongoing investment in road infrastructure is fueling rapid real estate development across Abuja, with new residential and commercial projects springing up along recently completed road corridors.
Speaking after inspecting the construction of the access road leading to the FCT Fire Service Station in the Kaura District, Wike noted that improved road connectivity is transforming previously underdeveloped areas into attractive destinations for property developers and investors.
The road project links Ring Road II to Oladipo Diya Way in Gaduwa and includes the construction of a collector road, two major local streets, and an additional access road designed to improve movement within the fast-growing districts of the Federal Capital Territory.
According to the minister, the expansion of Abuja’s road network is creating significant economic opportunities beyond transportation. He explained that better infrastructure is encouraging private sector investment, increasing the value of surrounding communities, and creating employment opportunities for residents, particularly young people.
Wike described the project as strategically important, stating that once completed, it will dramatically improve accessibility, reshape the physical landscape of the area, and stimulate commercial and residential development in neighboring districts.
The minister expressed satisfaction with the pace of construction, noting that substantial progress has been made since his previous inspection. He particularly commended the successful completion of the bridge that forms a critical part of the project.
He also disclosed that the contractor has been instructed to extend the road beyond its original scope to connect directly to Oladipo Diya Way, a move he believes will maximize the project’s impact and improve traffic flow across the district.
According to Wike, the additional extension will make the infrastructure more functional and beneficial to residents and businesses, while further enhancing connectivity within the capital city.
Despite the expanded scope of work, the contractor has assured the government that the project remains on schedule and is expected to be completed by December. Wike, however, noted that discussions are still ongoing regarding whether the extension will be delivered within the same timeline.
The minister reaffirmed the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s commitment to supporting the project through prompt payment of contractors, emphasizing that timely funding remains essential to maintaining the current pace of construction.
He expressed confidence in the contractor’s ability to deliver quality work within the agreed timeframe, adding that the completed project will significantly improve the area’s topography, accessibility, and overall urban landscape.
The latest road development reflects the FCT Administration’s broader strategy of using infrastructure to drive economic growth, attract private investment, and expand Abuja’s urban development. As new roads continue to open previously inaccessible locations, developers are increasingly investing in housing, commercial complexes, and other real estate projects, reinforcing the growing link between infrastructure development and property market expansion in Nigeria’s capital.
