Manchester United have reportedly finalized an agreement to sign Brazilian midfielder Ederson from Italian side Atalanta, marking a major step in the club’s efforts to strengthen its midfield ahead of the new season.
The Premier League giants entered the summer transfer window determined to reshape the heart of their squad following the departure of veteran midfielder Casemiro. With midfield reinforcements identified as a top priority, United accelerated their pursuit of Ederson, a player who had been on the club’s radar for more than a year.
Following their qualification for the UEFA Champions League, Manchester United intensified negotiations with Atalanta, with Director of Football Jason Wilcox playing a key role in pushing the deal forward.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, all documentation relating to the transfer has now been completed, with the Brazilian set to join the Red Devils in a deal worth a total package of €45 million (£39 million). Romano reported that the agreement between both clubs has been finalized and that personal terms with the player had already been settled since May.
The move is expected to be Manchester United’s first major signing of the summer as the club looks to build a squad capable of competing domestically and in Europe.
Ederson has earned a strong reputation during his time in Serie A, where his performances for Atalanta established him as one of the league’s most reliable midfielders. Known for his physical strength, work rate, and ability to cover large areas of the pitch, the Brazilian brings energy, defensive stability, and tactical versatility to the midfield.
Standing at six feet tall, Ederson has become recognized for his robust style of play and his ability to contribute at both ends of the field. His combination of athleticism, ball-winning ability, and technical quality is expected to add a new dimension to Manchester United’s midfield setup.
The signing reflects the club’s ongoing strategy of investing in players entering their prime years while addressing key areas of the squad. With Champions League football returning to Old Trafford, expectations are high that Ederson can make an immediate impact and help strengthen United’s ambitions for the upcoming campaign.
