Tinubu Tasks New Envoys to Rebrand Nigeria, Attract Investments and Strengthen Global Ties

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigeria’s newly appointed ambassadors and high commissioners to take an active role in reshaping the country’s global image while driving foreign investment and strategic partnerships.

The President gave the directive at the opening of an induction programme for the envoys held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja. Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, Tinubu said their appointments reflect strong confidence in their ability to promote Nigeria’s interests on the global stage.

According to him, the role of diplomats has become even more critical in a rapidly changing world shaped by shifting geopolitical dynamics, economic uncertainty, technological disruption, climate challenges, and evolving security threats. He urged the envoys to adopt modern, results-driven approaches that go beyond traditional diplomacy.

Tinubu emphasized the importance of combining conventional diplomatic engagement with digital communication and public diplomacy to better tell Nigeria’s story. He stressed that presenting the country’s achievements in a credible and compelling way is key to improving international perception and attracting global opportunities.

A major focus of the administration, he noted, is the pursuit of foreign direct investment and stronger economic partnerships that can drive national development. He encouraged the envoys to be proactive and innovative in engaging global stakeholders, promoting trade, and bringing in technology that can boost Nigeria’s economy.

The President also highlighted the welfare of Nigerians living abroad as a top priority, urging diplomatic missions to ensure that citizens in the diaspora are protected and supported at all times.

In what he described as a strategic policy shift, Tinubu announced a reordering of Nigeria’s foreign policy framework, known as the 4D Doctrine. The priorities have been rearranged to place Demography first, followed by Development, Diaspora, and Democracy. This adjustment, he explained, is designed to put Nigerians at the center of foreign policy and ensure that international engagements translate into real benefits for citizens.

He further stressed the need for professionalism, accountability, and integrity in diplomatic service, reminding the envoys that they represent not just the government but the image and identity of Nigeria on the world stage.

Tinubu concluded by urging the envoys to make full use of the induction programme, describing it as essential preparation for the demands of modern diplomacy. He also commended the National Assembly for its swift confirmation of the nominees, expressing confidence that they would deliver results and help reposition Nigeria in global affairs.
