Dapo Abiodun Approves Weekly Day Off, ₦10,000 Transport Allowance for Ogun Workers

Civil servants in Ogun State are set to receive much-needed relief as Governor Dapo Abiodun introduces new welfare measures aimed at easing the financial strain caused by rising transportation costs.

The state government has approved a weekly day off for eligible workers, alongside a ₦10,000 monthly transport allowance. The initiative, which takes effect from April 2026, will run initially for three months as part of efforts to cushion the impact of increased fuel prices on workers.

Announcing the development, the State Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya, explained that the measures are designed to reduce commuting pressure while improving staff morale and overall productivity within the public service.

According to him, the weekly day off will allow workers to better manage transportation expenses and maintain a healthier work-life balance. However, he clarified that certain categories of employees will not be eligible for the day-off arrangement due to the critical nature of their responsibilities. These include medical personnel, judicial officers, teachers, security operatives, heads of departments, and other essential duty officers whose roles require consistent presence.

Despite being exempt from the weekly break, these workers will still benefit from the ₦10,000 monthly transport support, ensuring that the financial relief extends across the workforce.

Onasanya further noted that Accounting Officers across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies will determine suitable days off for eligible staff, ensuring that government operations continue without disruption.

Describing the intervention as both timely and compassionate, the Head of Service praised Governor Abiodun for prioritizing workers’ welfare amid ongoing economic challenges. He also encouraged civil servants to respond with greater commitment, discipline, and improved service delivery.

The initiative reflects the Ogun State Government’s broader effort to support its workforce while maintaining efficiency in public administration, especially as many Nigerians continue to adjust to rising living costs.
