Israel Approves $826 Million Emergency Military Budget as War With Iran Intensifies

Israel has approved an emergency military procurement package worth about $826 million (2.6 billion shekels) as the ongoing conflict with Iran continues to escalate.

According to reports by Haaretz, the funding was approved during a weekend telephone meeting involving senior cabinet ministers. The emergency allocation is intended to support urgent defence-related purchases and strengthen Israel’s operational capabilities during the war.

Officials described the funding as necessary to address immediate military requirements created by the intensity of the fighting. While the government has not publicly detailed the specific purchases, the funds are expected to be used for acquiring munitions, procuring advanced weapons systems, and replenishing critical military supplies.

A finance ministry document circulated among cabinet members reportedly emphasized the urgency of the decision, noting that the additional funding would allow the military to maintain operational readiness and respond effectively to ongoing threats.

The emergency allocation will be drawn from Israel’s national budget, which totals about $222 billion and was approved earlier this month. The spending plan is expected to receive final legislative approval from the Knesset before the end of March.

The development comes as the war between Israel and Iran enters its third week, with continued missile exchanges and heightened military activity across the region.

Amid the conflict, Israeli officials have also moved to address speculation about the country’s defence capabilities. Gideon Saar recently dismissed reports suggesting that Israel had informed the United States it was running low on missile interceptors.

Speaking to reporters while visiting a location recently struck by an Iranian missile, Saar firmly denied the claims, stating that such reports were inaccurate.

The additional military funding highlights the scale of resources Israel is deploying to sustain its operations during the conflict. Defence analysts say emergency procurement decisions are often necessary during prolonged wars to ensure the military maintains sufficient stockpiles of weapons, ammunition, and defensive systems.

As the fighting continues, the new funding package is expected to play a critical role in strengthening Israel’s defence posture while supporting ongoing military operations against Iranian threats.
