NSCDC Intercepts Truck Carrying Stolen Railway Tracks in Bauchi, Arrests Five Suspects

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Bauchi State Command, has intercepted a truck loaded with vandalised railway tracks and arrested five suspects in a major operation targeting infrastructure sabotage in the state.

The command disclosed the development in an official statement released on Friday and signed by its spokesperson, Saminu Yusuf. According to the statement, the interception followed credible intelligence received by the corps, which prompted a targeted patrol along the Miri–Jos Road.

Yusuf explained that NSCDC operatives stopped a long vehicle truck with registration number MDB 360 XA on January 12, 2026, around Gital town in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area. The truck was allegedly heading towards the eastern part of the country and was discovered to be carrying vandalised railway materials cleverly concealed beneath bags of chicken feed and slippers in an apparent attempt to evade security checks.

Upon inspection, officers recovered 80 pieces of stolen railway tracks, along with five pairs of slippers, several bags of chicken feed, the truck used for transportation, and a Lexus RX 330 vehicle bearing registration number BWR 60 DN.

Five suspects were arrested at the scene and are currently in custody. They include Adam Kolo, 42, from Borno State; Samuel Musa, 44, from Yobe State; Solomon Jankaro, 40, from Niger State; Emmanuel Collins, 26, from Enugu State; and Sunday David, 20, also from Enugu State. Yusuf added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the alleged owner and mastermind of the operation, identified simply as Mr. John, as well as the truck driver, Auwal, who both remain at large.

In a related operation, the NSCDC also arrested one Nura Abdullahi of Wuntin Dada in Bauchi metropolis on January 14, 2026, over alleged motorcycle theft.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Abdullahi confessed to purchasing stolen motorcycles from two suspects within Bauchi State and reselling eight of them to a buyer in Gindiri, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State. The motorcycles were reportedly valued at approximately ₦2.02 million. Authorities say investigations are continuing to arrest other members of the syndicate and recover remaining stolen items.

Commending his officers for their vigilance and professionalism, the Bauchi State Commandant of the NSCDC, Oloyede Nelson, reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to protecting critical national infrastructure. He warned vandals and criminal elements to desist from such acts or face the full weight of the law.

Nelson also called on residents of Bauchi State, particularly those living near public infrastructure, to support security agencies by promptly reporting suspicious activities. According to him, timely and credible information from the public remains crucial in the fight against vandalism and other forms of crime.
