The Inspector General of Police has expressed strong disapproval over the actions of police officers who took part in Minister Nyesom Wike’s land recovery operation without securing a valid court order.
According to the police leadership, no officer is permitted to enforce land reclamation, seizure, or demolition directives without proper judicial authorization. The IGP emphasized that such unauthorized participation not only violates due process but also undermines public confidence in the rule of law.
The statement follows public outcry surrounding the controversial land recovery mission led by Minister Wike, during which several police officers were seen providing support despite the absence of a court mandate. The IGP noted that every operation involving land disputes must follow established legal procedures, adding that officers found acting outside the law will face disciplinary action.
The police chief reiterated the force’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, and strict adherence to constitutional requirements, stressing that law enforcement agencies cannot be used to further interests or actions that bypass judicial processes.
