The meeting, held at the historic Dolmabahce Palace, underscores Turkey’s continued role as a strategic mediator in the conflict. The palace, located along the Bosphorus, has previously hosted multiple rounds of negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv, making it a symbolic venue for renewed dialogue.
Talks between the two leaders focused heavily on ensuring stability in energy supply and maritime safety, particularly in the Black Sea region, which remains critical for both trade and global energy flows. Erdogan emphasized Turkey’s commitment to safeguarding navigation routes and maintaining secure energy corridors, especially amid rising geopolitical tensions.
The visit came shortly after Erdogan held discussions with Vladimir Putin, who accused Ukraine of attempting to target a key gas pipeline linking Russia and Turkey. The pipeline is vital for supplying energy to several European nations, adding another layer of urgency to the talks in Istanbul.
Zelenskyy, speaking after the meeting, highlighted the potential for deeper cooperation between Ukraine and Turkey in the energy sector.
