Fresh concerns over insecurity have emerged in Zamfara State after armed bandits reportedly abducted seven students during an early morning attack in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.
The incident occurred at about 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday on the outskirts of the Low-Cost Area in Kaura Namoda, when heavily armed assailants stormed student residences and forcefully took the victims to an undisclosed location.
According to the Zamfara State Police Command, one of the abducted students managed to escape from the kidnappers and has since been safely reunited with authorities.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, disclosed that security agencies responded swiftly after receiving reports of the attack. He said joint police tactical teams, alongside military personnel attached to Operation Fansar Yamma, were immediately deployed to the area.
However, by the time security operatives arrived at the scene, the attackers had already fled with the victims. Abubakar explained that security forces have since intensified search-and-rescue operations across the area in a bid to secure the safe release of the remaining students and bring the perpetrators to justice.
He reassured residents that law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to track down the kidnappers and ensure the victims are rescued unharmed.
The police spokesperson also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could aid ongoing operations. Authorities have pledged to keep residents informed as investigations and rescue efforts continue.
The latest abduction adds to growing concerns over the security situation in parts of northwestern Nigeria, where bandit attacks and kidnappings for ransom have continued to pose significant challenges to communities, schools, and residents.
