Apple’s iPhone Duo Fails JerryRigEverything Durability Test as Dust and Bending Damage Screen

Apple’s first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, has come under scrutiny after failing a durability test conducted by popular YouTuber JerryRigEverything. The test revealed problems with the phone’s hinge when exposed to dust and significant damage to its inner display during a bending test.

The results have raised questions about the durability of Apple’s new foldable device, which starts at $1,999.

During the test, JerryRigEverything creator Zack Nelson exposed the iPhone Duo to dust and small particles to assess how well its folding mechanism could handle debris.

Although Apple advertises the phone as dust- and water-resistant, particles appeared to enter the hinge, leaving the device unable to close completely.

The result highlights a potential weakness in the phone’s folding mechanism, particularly for users who regularly use their devices in dusty environments.

The problems continued when Nelson tested the phone’s resistance to bending in the wrong direction.

While the frame initially remained intact, the inner display developed permanent green lines after pressure was applied. Further bending caused additional damage, eventually leaving the folding screen unresponsive.

The test was designed to push the device beyond ordinary use, so the results do not necessarily mean the phone will break during normal handling. However, the damage raises concerns about how well the screen and hinge withstand unexpected physical stress.

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 performed better in comparable durability tests conducted by JerryRigEverything, surviving dust exposure and an extreme reverse-bending attempt without suffering the same major structural failure.

Samsung has several generations of foldable-phone experience, while the iPhone Duo represents Apple’s first entry into the category.

However, these results alone do not establish which brand offers better long-term reliability across all devices. Real-world performance will depend on everyday use, manufacturing quality and how each phone handles wear over time.

The durability test provides an important consideration for consumers thinking about buying a foldable smartphone. Beyond camera quality, battery life and performance, the strength of the hinge and the protection of the inner display are critical factors.

For prospective iPhone Duo buyers, the findings may be worth considering before spending nearly $2,000 on the device. Further testing and longer-term user experiences should help clarify whether the weaknesses observed are isolated to the test conditions or reflect broader durability concerns.

Apple has yet to establish, through publicly available long-term evidence, how the device will perform after extended everyday use.
