‘Breaking Bad’ Actor RJ Mitte Dies at 34

American actor RJ Mitte, best known for playing Walter “Flynn” White Jr. in the acclaimed television series Breaking Bad, has died at the age of 34. Mitte’s death was confirmed by his representatives on October 12, 2026. According to Reuters, the actor died in Brownsville, Texas. His representatives described him as a beloved actor, philanthropist and disability rights advocate.

TMZ reported that Mitte died by suicide, citing a county official, and said the death investigation was ongoing. However, Reuters and CBS News initially reported his death without confirming a cause.

Mitte rose to international prominence through his portrayal of Walter White Jr., the son of chemistry teacher-turned-drug kingpin Walter White, played by Bryan Cranston, in AMC’s hit crime drama Breaking Bad.

The series ran from 2008 to 2013 and became one of television’s most celebrated dramas. Mitte appeared in 56 episodes, earning recognition for his portrayal of a teenager navigating the consequences of his family’s increasingly complicated circumstances.

The actor also brought personal experience to the role. Diagnosed with cerebral palsy as a child, Mitte helped bring greater visibility to people with disabilities through his work on screen.

Outside Hollywood, Mitte was known for advocating for greater representation and inclusion of people with disabilities in entertainment and society.

His representatives highlighted his work with organisations including United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s, noting that he used his public platform to promote disability awareness and inclusion. He also supported philanthropic initiatives through The Mitte Foundation.

His career extended beyond Breaking Bad, with appearances in other television productions and films, including Switched at Birth and Triumph.

Following the news, Bryan Cranston expressed deep sadness over Mitte’s death, remembering the young actor he watched grow during the filming of Breaking Bad. Cranston also reflected on Mitte’s advocacy work and the promise he demonstrated throughout his career. His tribute highlighted the personal bond that developed among members of the cast over the years.

Mitte’s death has brought renewed attention to his contributions as an actor and disability rights advocate. His portrayal of Walter White Jr. helped make a character with cerebral palsy an integral part of a globally recognised television drama.

As tributes continue, his work remains part of the legacy of Breaking Bad and the wider conversation about representation in film and television.
