Rick Ross Arrested in Miami Beach on Battery by Strangulation Charge

American rapper Rick Ross has been arrested in Miami Beach, Florida, after authorities accused him of battery by strangulation and battery in connection with an alleged domestic violence incident.

Ross, whose legal name is William Leonard Roberts II, voluntarily surrendered to Miami Beach police early Thursday, October 1, 2026. He was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on one felony count of battery by strangulation and one misdemeanor count of battery, with both charges classified as domestic violence-related.

According to the arrest affidavit, the allegations stem from an incident that reportedly occurred on August 28 at Ross’ residence on Star Island in Miami Beach. Police said the woman involved reported the incident to authorities on September 29.

The woman told investigators that Ross allegedly became angry after seeing her tagged in an Instagram photo and accused her of being involved with another man. According to the affidavit, she alleged that Ross slapped her, struck her several times and restricted her breathing by grabbing and twisting the collar of her hoodie. She also alleged that he pulled her by the ponytail and slammed her against a wall, causing an injury to her lip.

Police said the woman provided photographs of her injuries and that investigators also reviewed surveillance footage connected to the incident. Authorities said the evidence provided probable cause for the arrest.

Ross has denied the allegations. His attorneys have said he is innocent and has pleaded not guilty, urging the public not to prejudge the case while the legal process continues. Ross also denied wrongdoing after leaving jail, describing the allegations as fabricated.

A Miami-Dade judge set Ross’ total bond at $5,000 and ordered him to stay away from the alleged victim. He was subsequently released from custody. His arraignment is scheduled for October 22, 2026.

The allegations remain unproven in court, and the case is ongoing.
