The Nigerian Army has arrested two serving soldiers over their alleged involvement in an unauthorized deployment during the wedding ceremony of popular content creator Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, and fellow TikTok personality Jarvis, held in Lekki, Lagos State.
According to military sources, the arrests were made on Tuesday following intelligence reports that the soldiers participated in security duties at the high-profile celebrity wedding without official authorization.
The soldiers were reportedly taken into custody as the Army launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding their presence at the event and whether other personnel were involved.
Military sources identified the arrested personnel as Private Onasanya Ifeoluwa, attached to the 81 Division Medical Services and Hospital (81DMSH), and Private Ukpai Onyinyechi, who is also serving with the same unit in Obalende, Lagos.
According to the sources, preliminary investigations are underway to establish the extent of their involvement and identify any additional military personnel who may have participated in the alleged unauthorized deployment.
The controversy began after videos from the lavish wedding circulated widely across social media, showing individuals dressed in Nigerian Army uniforms providing security and escorting some celebrity guests around the venue.
One of the videos that attracted significant public attention allegedly showed a soldier acting as a security escort for popular TikTok personality Ivanna as she made her way through the crowded event.
The footage sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians questioning why serving military personnel appeared to be providing security at a private social event involving celebrities and social media influencers.
The wedding of Peller and Jarvis, which took place over the weekend in Lekki, attracted several entertainers, content creators, influencers, and other notable personalities. Videos from the ceremony dominated social media, making it one of the country’s most talked-about celebrity events.
However, public attention quickly shifted from the celebration to concerns over the apparent involvement of military personnel after clips surfaced showing uniformed soldiers controlling access to parts of the venue and escorting selected guests.
The Nigerian Army has consistently maintained that serving personnel are prohibited from undertaking unauthorized private security assignments or participating in deployments that have not received official approval through the appropriate military channels.
As investigations continue, the Army is expected to determine whether the soldiers violated military regulations and whether further disciplinary actions or additional arrests will be necessary based on the findings of the ongoing inquiry.
