Nigeria Immigration Service Confirms Passport Services Remain Fully Operational Nationwide

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has assured Nigerians that passport application and processing services are continuing without interruption, despite the recent migration of additional passport branches to the Central Personalization Centre.

In a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, the Service clarified that the ongoing migration is an administrative upgrade aimed at strengthening passport production, improving efficiency, and enhancing the security of Nigeria’s travel documents—not a suspension of passport services.

The NIS explained that the transition is part of efforts to modernize the country’s passport issuance process and align it with international best practices for document security and identity management.

According to the Service, Nigerians applying for passports can continue to visit their designated passport offices for biometric enrolment and other application procedures as scheduled. It emphasized that biometric data capture is proceeding normally across all passport centres, with no disruption to applicants.

The Immigration Service noted that centralizing passport personalization is expected to improve operational efficiency, reduce processing bottlenecks, strengthen the integrity of Nigerian passports, and ensure compliance with global security standards.

It also reassured the public that passport capturing centres across the country remain fully functional and that the production, personalization, and distribution of passport booklets are continuing within the established processing timelines.

The agency added that completed passport booklets are being processed efficiently at the Central Personalization Centre before being returned to local passport offices for collection within the standard delivery period.

The clarification comes amid concerns among some Nigerians following reports about the migration of additional passport branches to the centralized production system. The NIS stressed that the administrative adjustment is intended to improve service delivery rather than restrict access to passport services.

The Service encouraged applicants to continue using official application channels and to visit their assigned passport offices for biometric enrolment and other required procedures, assuring citizens that passport issuance remains fully operational nationwide.
