Samsung Wallet to Add Native Stablecoin Support, Bringing Digital Asset Payments Closer to Everyday Use

Samsung has announced plans to introduce native stablecoin support to Samsung Wallet, a move that could bring digital asset transactions to more than one billion Galaxy smartphone users worldwide.

The announcement was made during the Galaxy Unpacked event held in London on July 22, where the technology giant unveiled its vision of expanding Samsung Wallet beyond traditional payment methods into a platform that also supports digital currencies.

According to Samsung, the upcoming feature will allow users to hold, send, and receive stablecoins directly within Samsung Wallet, eliminating the need for third-party cryptocurrency wallet applications for basic transactions.

Samsung Wallet currently enables users to store payment cards, identification documents, boarding passes, hotel keys, and digital tickets. With the planned integration of stablecoins, the company aims to position the wallet as a broader digital finance platform capable of managing both traditional and blockchain-based assets.

Speaking during the event, Samsung Product Manager Lee Dinham said the company intends to embrace new forms of digital value as financial technology continues to evolve.

He explained that Samsung Wallet would expand beyond cash and conventional savings to support stablecoins, making Samsung one of the first major smartphone manufacturers to offer native stablecoin functionality within its built-in wallet.

The announcement reflects the growing adoption of stablecoins, which are digital assets designed to maintain a stable value by being backed by reserves such as cash or short-term government securities. Unlike more volatile cryptocurrencies, stablecoins are commonly used for payments, money transfers, and other financial transactions because their value is typically pegged to a traditional currency such as the U.S. dollar.

During the product demonstration, Samsung showcased a wallet interface displaying USDC, the stablecoin issued by Circle and currently one of the world’s largest dollar-backed digital currencies by market capitalization. However, the company stopped short of confirming Circle as its official launch partner.

Samsung also did not disclose when the feature will become available or which blockchain network will power the stablecoin transactions. Several important implementation details remain undisclosed. The company has yet to clarify whether the service will operate as a custodial wallet, where a third party manages users’ digital assets, or as a non-custodial wallet, where users maintain exclusive control of their private cryptographic keys and funds.

The move comes as global interest in digital assets and blockchain-based payment systems continues to grow. Major technology companies and financial institutions are increasingly exploring stablecoins as a faster and more efficient method for transferring value across borders while reducing transaction costs.

If widely adopted, Samsung’s integration could significantly expand mainstream access to stablecoins by placing digital asset functionality directly into smartphones that millions of people already use every day.

While Samsung has not announced an official rollout timeline, the planned feature signals the company’s growing commitment to digital finance and highlights the increasing convergence of mobile technology and blockchain-powered payment solutions.
