Social media platform X has unveiled a major update to its creator revenue-sharing program, introducing a more advanced system designed to identify stolen content and ensure that original creators receive the earnings they deserve. The move marks another step in X’s efforts to improve content authenticity while cracking down on users who exploit the platform’s monetization features.
According to Nikita Bier, the latest version of X’s Grok AI model can now detect duplicated videos and text posts at three times the rate of the previous system. The improved technology is capable of identifying reposted content even when users attempt to disguise it by adding watermarks, introductions, or other edits intended to make copied material appear original.
Under the new policy, monetized impressions generated by duplicated content will no longer benefit those who repost it. Instead, the revenue will be redirected to the original creator. The update also applies to copied text posts, addressing one of the platform’s most common forms of content theft.
Bier revealed that X identified approximately 1.5 million stolen posts during its latest detection cycle. Although the company did not specify the time frame for the review, it confirmed that more than $1 million in creator payouts will now be redirected to the rightful owners of the content.
Content theft has long been a challenge across social media platforms, particularly when viral posts are repeatedly shared without proper credit. Platforms including Instagram, Facebook, and Reddit have implemented various tools to discourage unauthorized reposting, and X is now strengthening its own approach by combining artificial intelligence with stricter monetization policies.
The company has also encouraged creators to publish original content directly on X by rolling out an upgraded video editor and recording tools, making it easier for users to create and upload content without relying on material from other platforms.
Beyond combating stolen content, X is intensifying its efforts against spam and automated accounts. The platform says it has significantly improved its bot detection capabilities, with Bier previously revealing that X was identifying and suspending more than 200 bots every minute—a figure that continues to rise as detection systems become more sophisticated.
The updated creator policy also targets engagement bait, a practice where users attempt to artificially boost interactions by encouraging replies, follows, or likes solely to increase visibility and earnings. According to X, creators who repeatedly use engagement bait—such as promising to follow everyone who comments—risk losing access to the platform’s creator monetization program. Accounts that violate the policy multiple times may also be referred to X’s moderation team for possible suspension.
The latest changes reflect X’s broader strategy to protect original creators, improve the quality of content shared on the platform, and ensure that revenue generated through its creator program reaches those who produce authentic work. As artificial intelligence continues to reshape social media, X is betting that smarter detection systems and stricter enforcement will help build a fairer ecosystem for creators while reducing the spread of copied and manipulated content.
