Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have uncovered a massive drug trafficking operation in Lagos, leading to the seizure of suspected illicit drugs valued at approximately ₦7.8 billion and the arrest of multiple suspects, including alleged drug kingpin Eke Henry Ifeanyi.
The operation was carried out by officers attached to the Zone 2 Command through the Special Protection Unit in collaboration with divisional police detectives. According to police authorities, the breakthrough followed months of intelligence gathering, surveillance, and coordinated monitoring directed from the Zone 2 Headquarters.
The raid took place at an apartment located within an estate in Mende, Maryland, Lagos, where officers reportedly recovered hundreds of bags of suspected Canadian Loud believed to have been stored by the prime suspect and his associates.
Speaking to journalists after the operation, Olohundare Jimoh, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, revealed that the suspect was arrested on May 19 following weeks of strategic tracking by security operatives. He explained that the operation was conducted with technical backing from Olatunji Disu and involved close cooperation between the Special Protection Unit and divisional police teams.
According to the AIG, the suspect allegedly attempted to derail the operation by offering a staggering ₦500 million bribe to the SPU commander. The money was reportedly intended to persuade officers to abandon the raid and allow time for the drug shipment to be relocated.
Jimoh stated that the bribe offer was immediately rejected and officially documented as part of the ongoing investigation. He described the officers’ actions as evidence of the growing professionalism and discipline being reinforced within the police force under the current leadership.
He further explained that the success of the operation highlighted the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing, rapid containment strategies, and stronger collaboration between specialized police units and local divisional teams.
The police boss noted that officers quickly secured the surrounding area during the operation to prevent escape attempts or tampering with evidence. He added that the professionalism displayed by the officers involved reflects the standards expected from personnel deployed across commands in Lagos and Ogun states.
Reacting to the development, Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu praised the operatives for their integrity and commitment to duty. He said the operation demonstrated the importance of community-focused policing and coordination between specialized units and grassroots officers.
The IGP also commended the SPU commander for rejecting the alleged ₦500 million bribe, describing the decision as a strong example of ethical policing and accountability within the force.
Authorities confirmed that all exhibits recovered during the raid have been properly documented and will be presented as evidence in court. Meanwhile, the arrested suspects remain in custody as investigations continue to identify and apprehend other members of the drug trafficking network.
