Residents and businesses in Isolo and surrounding communities in Lagos State could soon experience more reliable electricity supply following the approval of a new embedded power generation project.
Isolo Power Gen Limited has secured regulatory approval to develop a 9-megawatt embedded power generation facility under the latest licensing round issued by the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC).
The company emerged as one of 14 operators granted licenses in the latest round, but it was the only firm approved specifically under the embedded generation category for a 9MW project. The approval marks another step in Lagos State’s broader strategy to decentralize electricity generation and improve power reliability across key residential, commercial, and industrial zones.
The planned facility will be located along Apapa-Oshodi Expressway in Isolo and is expected to directly support electricity supply within the local network.
Unlike traditional grid-based generation systems, the embedded generation model allows electricity to be produced and supplied directly into a localized distribution network.
This structure is designed to improve reliability by reducing dependence on centralized national grid infrastructure, which has historically been affected by outages, transmission challenges, and supply instability.
Once completed, the project is expected to serve Isolo and adjoining communities through a dedicated power distribution framework tailored to local demand.
The development has generated optimism among residents and businesses, many of whom have long struggled with inconsistent electricity supply and heavy reliance on generators.
A more stable power supply could significantly reduce energy costs for households and businesses while improving productivity, operational efficiency, and quality of life.
The project forms part of Lagos State’s wider electricity reform agenda, which has gained momentum following increased state-level regulatory authority over power generation and distribution.
By encouraging embedded and localized generation projects, Lagos aims to create more resilient electricity infrastructure capable of meeting rising urban demand.
Ownership of Isolo Power Gen Limited reportedly includes Westfield Assets Limited, Camara Exim Limited, Chellarams Plc, and businessman Suresh Chellaram.
The involvement of both international and local stakeholders reflects growing investor interest in Nigeria’s evolving subnational electricity market.
Although no official completion date has yet been announced, the approval positions the project as a potentially significant addition to Lagos’ energy landscape.
If successfully delivered, the 9MW facility could bring Isolo closer to consistent, near-round-the-clock electricity access while serving as a model for similar embedded power projects across other parts of the state.
As Lagos continues to pursue alternative energy and decentralized grid solutions, projects like this highlight the state’s efforts to build a more reliable and efficient electricity ecosystem outside the limitations of the national grid.
