Russian President Vladimir Putin has reportedly cautioned the United States against launching any new military ground operation in Iran during a lengthy phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump.
The high-level call, which reportedly lasted more than 90 minutes, focused on escalating tensions in the Middle East, the ongoing war involving Iran, and renewed discussions around a possible temporary ceasefire in Ukraine.
According to Kremlin foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov, Putin told Trump that Moscow views the possibility of a U.S. ground operation in Iran as a dangerous move that could further destabilize the already volatile region.
At the same time, the Russian leader reportedly welcomed Trump’s decision to extend a ceasefire arrangement in the Middle East, signaling cautious approval of efforts to prevent broader regional escalation.
Russia, a long-time strategic ally of Iran, has remained largely on the sidelines of recent diplomatic efforts surrounding the conflict. However, Western intelligence agencies have continued to allege that Moscow has been providing support to Tehran, including intelligence sharing and drone assistance linked to attacks on U.S. interests in the region.
Following the call, Trump described the conversation positively, stating that he had a “very good conversation” with Putin and emphasizing their long-standing familiarity.
The U.S. president also disclosed that Putin offered Russia’s assistance in handling Iran’s buried uranium reserves, suggesting the material could be transferred to Russia. Trump, however, indicated that he would rather see Putin focus his efforts on helping bring an end to the war in Ukraine.
Trump reiterated his belief that a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine may be within reach, though major differences remain unresolved.
Putin has maintained that Russia is willing to continue military operations until Ukraine agrees to key demands, including territorial concessions in the Donbas region. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has consistently rejected any proposal involving the surrender of Ukrainian territory.
During the call, Putin reportedly told Trump that Russian forces remain in control of battlefield momentum and continue to push back Ukrainian positions.
However, military analysts and open-source battlefield assessments suggest that neither Russia nor Ukraine appears close to achieving a decisive breakthrough. Both sides have suffered heavy casualties, while military offensives have slowed considerably in recent months.
The two countries continue to exchange strikes targeting critical energy infrastructure, prolonging a conflict that remains one of the world’s most significant geopolitical flashpoints.
The latest conversation between Trump and Putin highlights the growing overlap between crises in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, as global powers continue to navigate multiple security challenges simultaneously.
