Uganda Army Chief Claims DNA Test Shows Greek Ancestry, Sparks Reactions Online

Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has sparked widespread online reactions after claiming that a recent DNA test showed he is 14% Greek.

Kainerugaba, who is also the son of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, shared the results through a series of posts on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

According to the Ugandan military chief, the ancestry test revealed that he is 14% Greek, 19% Somali, and 7% English. He humorously stated that he had always believed he was somehow connected to Alexander the Great, one of history’s most famous military leaders.

Following the revelation, Kainerugaba said he plans to visit Greece and jokingly expressed hope that his newly discovered ancestry would exempt him from needing a visa.

In another playful remark, he declined to disclose the rest of his genetic composition, calling the remaining portion of his ancestry a “state secret.”

The DNA announcement came amid a broader wave of controversial and provocative social media posts from the army chief, who has built a reputation for making unconventional statements online.

Earlier in April 2026, Kainerugaba made headlines after publicly demanding $1 billion from Turkey while also making unusual personal requests tied to the country. He later claimed to have married five Turkish women and issued warnings regarding future diplomatic tensions.

He also made comments on immigration and national identity, suggesting that many Ugandans share similar ancestry profiles.

Kainerugaba currently serves as Uganda’s highest-ranking military officer after being appointed Chief of Defence Forces in March 2024 by President Museveni.

Beyond his military role, he has openly expressed political ambitions and has announced plans to run for Uganda’s presidency in 2026, fueling speculation about a potential political transition in the East African nation.

Known for his outspoken and often controversial online presence, Kainerugaba frequently dominates headlines with comments that blur the line between political messaging, personal humor, and diplomatic provocation.

His latest ancestry revelation has added another layer to his already headline-grabbing public persona, drawing both amusement and debate across social media and international news platforms.
