Germany has sharply escalated its rhetoric against Iran’s ruling authorities, with Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul stating that the Islamic Republic no longer enjoys the support of its own people and has effectively “lost all legitimacy.”
In remarks that reflect growing frustration in European capitals, Wadephul said Iran’s leadership has forfeited public trust amid ongoing unrest and repression. According to the German foreign minister, the scale of domestic opposition and the authorities’ response have stripped the regime of any remaining moral or political authority.
Wadephul made it clear that Berlin is prepared to intensify pressure on Tehran, stressing that Germany will deploy “all measures available” against the current leadership. He specifically pointed to the use of sanctions as a key tool, signaling a harder line in Germany’s approach toward Iran.
The comments come as Iran faces sustained protests and increasing international scrutiny over human rights abuses, mass arrests, and the use of force against demonstrators. European governments, including Germany, have grown more outspoken as reports of civilian deaths and crackdowns continue to emerge.
