Liam Rosenior is set to become Chelsea’s next head coach, with the appointment expected to be confirmed barring any last-minute complications. The former Brighton and Hull City defender is scheduled to meet Chelsea’s sporting leadership team on Monday as talks advance over a deal to take charge at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are seeking a new head coach following the departure of Enzo Maresca, who left the club on January 1. With the season in full swing, the club hierarchy is keen to act quickly to stabilise the team and maintain momentum.
Rosenior’s potential move has also prompted activity across the BlueCo network. Strasbourg president Marc Keller and sporting director David Weir are travelling to London for discussions with BlueCo, the ownership group that controls both Chelsea and the French club. Their visit is expected to focus on succession planning at Strasbourg, with Rosenior currently in charge there.
Strasbourg are understood to be preparing for Rosenior’s exit by drawing up a shortlist of three candidates to replace him. Former Wolverhampton Wanderers and Bournemouth manager Gary O’Neil is among those being considered. O’Neil has been out of work since leaving Wolves in December 2024, despite successfully guiding the club to Premier League safety the previous season.
Chelsea are eager to finalise the managerial appointment as soon as possible, with the aim of having the new head coach in place ahead of their Premier League clash against Fulham on Wednesday.
