China has officially set a new world record after an astonishing 16,000 AI-powered drones took to the skies in perfect synchronization over Liuyang, Hunan — a city famously known as the “Home of Fireworks.”
In a breathtaking display that blended technology and artistry, the traditional fireworks show was replaced by a dazzling drone performance powered by artificial intelligence. The spectacle illuminated the night sky with mesmerizing formations of light and motion, symbolizing the future of digital celebrations.
According to reports, a total of 15,947 drones were precisely coordinated through a central AI system, each programmed to follow an intricate flight path. Together, they formed luminous towers, intricate floral patterns, and a radiant “Sky Tree” that captivated thousands of spectators.
The event achieved two Guinness World Records — one for the largest number of drones controlled from a single computer, and another for the 7,496 units that successfully launched fireworks as part of the aerial performance.
Liuyang, historically renowned for its fireworks industry, is now positioning itself as a global pioneer in digital pyrotechnics. The record-breaking display not only showcased China’s growing dominance in drone technology but also hinted at a more sustainable, eco-friendly alternative to traditional fireworks, which often cause air and noise pollution.
Experts say the successful execution of the event demonstrates the rapid advancement of AI in large-scale coordination, data processing, and real-time control — a feat that could revolutionize entertainment, security, and even disaster response systems.
