Israel Gaza War: Netanyahu Approves Plan to Take Control of Gaza City

Israel’s security cabinet has approved Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plan to take control of Gaza City, intensifying the Israel-Gaza conflict nearly two years after the war began. The decision, seen as a major escalation in Gaza military operations, has sparked strong criticism from both international allies and within Israel.

Germany, a long-standing partner of Israel, announced it would halt all exports of military equipment that could be used in Gaza. Berlin’s move marks one of the strongest rebukes yet from a European ally.

Netanyahu called the decision “disappointing,” but pressure continued to mount as Britain and other European nations urged Israel to reconsider the Gaza City takeover.

Within Israel, the backlash is growing. Families of hostages in Gaza accused the government of putting their loved ones’ lives at risk, arguing that a deeper push into Gaza would jeopardize negotiations for their release. Opposition leaders echoed these concerns, pointing out that military escalation could make a peaceful resolution even harder.

Despite warnings, far-right members of Netanyahu’s coalition remain committed to a full takeover of Gaza, aligning with the prime minister’s vow to dismantle Hamas. However, Israeli military officials have cautioned that such a move could further endanger the remaining hostages and prolong the war.
