Southern China is reeling from what experts are calling the worst flood in the nation’s recorded history, with entire cities submerged and tens of thousands displaced. In Rongjiang County, Guizhou Province, floodwaters surged past 837 feet, engulfing homes, submerging roads, and overwhelming infrastructure.
More than 80,000 residents were forced to evacuate as the relentless waters consumed entire neighborhoods. Many who have since returned are met with devastation—ruined homes, destroyed belongings, and lives turned upside down. Over 50,000 people are now grappling with the aftermath, facing the difficult task of rebuilding from the ruins.

The disaster has shocked a country no stranger to seasonal flooding. What makes this flood different, authorities say, is its unprecedented intensity and scope. Video footage circulating online shows entire towns underwater, bridges collapsed, and emergency crews navigating city streets by boat.

Officials have launched large-scale rescue and relief operations, but the challenges are immense. With landslides, power outages, and contaminated water sources adding to the crisis, humanitarian needs are mounting by the hour.
