Federal agents were forced to use tear gas to disperse crowds during a heated anti-ICE protest in Portland, as tensions between demonstrators and law enforcement boiled over once again in the city’s downtown district.

The demonstration, part of an ongoing wave of protests opposing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), drew hundreds of participants.

Protesters gathered outside a federal building late Tuesday, voicing outrage over immigration policies and detention practices. What began as a largely peaceful rally reportedly escalated when a group of demonstrators began vandalizing property and attempting to breach security barriers.
