An electronics manufacturing facility in Russia’s Chuvashia region, approximately 600 kilometers east of Moscow, was forced to temporarily suspend operations on Monday following a drone attack attributed to Ukrainian forces. The incident highlights the intensifying use of unmanned aerial vehicles in the ongoing conflict, now entering its fourth year.
According to Chuvashia’s regional governor, Oleg Nikolayev, two drones crashed onto the premises of the VNIIR factory, a key site for producing electronic components in Russia. “This morning, Ukrainian attempts to use drones in Chuvashia were detected,” Nikolayev stated via Telegram.

He confirmed that the debris fell on the factory grounds but emphasized there were no casualties. As a precaution, factory operations have been temporarily suspended to protect the safety of employees.

Moscow reported that the drones were intercepted, and the resulting debris landed on the facility. However, Ukraine’s military offered a contrasting account, claiming a direct strike on a facility that contributes to Russia’s military-industrial operations.

In a statement, Ukraine’s General Staff said the VNIIR site was targeted specifically for producing antennas for Shahed drones—Iranian-designed unmanned aerial vehicles that Russia uses frequently in its strikes on Ukrainian cities.

The statement further underlined Ukraine’s strategic objective: “Strikes on the facilities that support the armed aggression of the Russian Federation will continue until it is completely stopped.” The retaliation comes amid Russia’s continued aerial assaults, which have included dozens of Shahed drone attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure and urban areas in recent days.

Russia’s Ministry of Defense reported intercepting 49 Ukrainian drones overnight, while Ukraine claimed it had downed “dozens” of Russian drones over the Rivne region in the country’s west.
The incident at the VNIIR facility marks yet another escalation in the technological and tactical battlefield between the two nations. With critical infrastructure increasingly in the crosshairs of both sides, drone warfare continues to reshape the nature of modern conflict, making civilian and military production centers highly vulnerable and strategically significant targets.
