Taiwan Detects 24 Chinese Military Aircraft and Naval Vessels Near Its Territory

Ministry of National Defense has reported a fresh wave of Chinese military activity around Taiwan, as tensions across the Taiwan Strait continue to grow. According to the ministry, Taiwan tracked 24 military aircraft belonging to the People’s Liberation Army, alongside six naval vessels and three official Chinese ships operating near the island between 6 a.m. Tuesday and 6 a.m. Wednesday.

The defense ministry stated that 13 of the aircraft crossed the Taiwan Strait median line and entered Taiwan’s northern, central, southwestern, and eastern air defense identification zones. The median line has long served as an unofficial boundary between both sides of the strait, although Beijing does not formally recognize it.

In response to the activity, Taiwan deployed aircraft, naval forces, and coastal missile systems to closely monitor the movements and maintain security around the island. Taiwanese authorities said the military remained on alert throughout the operation as the situation unfolded.

The latest development highlights the continued increase in Chinese military operations around Taiwan in recent years. According to official figures released by Taiwan’s defense ministry, Chinese military aircraft have been tracked 157 times this month alone, while Chinese naval ships have been detected 148 times in surrounding waters.

Since September 2020, China has steadily intensified what analysts describe as “gray zone tactics” around Taiwan. These tactics involve increasing military pressure through repeated air and naval operations without engaging in direct armed conflict.

Security experts describe gray zone strategies as efforts designed to achieve strategic and political objectives while avoiding full-scale warfare. By continuously deploying aircraft and naval vessels near Taiwan, Beijing is believed to be testing Taiwan’s military readiness, increasing psychological pressure, and reinforcing its territorial claims over the self-governed island.

The growing frequency of these operations has continued to raise concerns across the Indo-Pacific region, with international observers closely monitoring developments between China and Taiwan.

Taiwan has repeatedly emphasized its commitment to defending its sovereignty and maintaining regional stability, while China continues to insist that Taiwan is part of its territory. The ongoing military maneuvers remain one of the most sensitive flashpoints in global geopolitics, drawing attention from major powers and regional allies alike.
