Kogi Tragedy: Police Corporal Allegedly Kills Female Colleague Before Taking His Own Life

A tragic shooting incident at ASCO Camp in Ajaokuta, Kogi State, has claimed the lives of two serving police officers, prompting an investigation by the state police command.

The incident, which occurred on Friday, October 23, 2026, involved Corporal Amos Yusuf and Woman Corporal Grace Onimisi. Preliminary findings indicate that Yusuf shot his female colleague before taking his own life, according to the Kogi State Police Command.

In a statement issued on Sunday, October 25, the command confirmed that both officers were taken to separate medical facilities, where they were pronounced dead. Their remains were subsequently deposited at the mortuary of ASCO Hospital.

According to the police, the incident was reported at approximately 11:04 p.m. on October 23. The Divisional Police Officer in Ajaokuta led a team to the scene following the report. An AK-47 rifle and four expended cartridges were recovered and taken as exhibits as part of the investigation.

The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a more detailed inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the deaths. The police said the motive behind the incident remains unknown and cautioned against speculation while investigations continue.

Earlier media reports linked the incident to alleged difficulties in the officers’ personal relationship. Sources cited by those outlets claimed the pair had experienced disagreements in recent months.

The Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, Naziru Bello Kankarofi, expressed condolences to the families, colleagues and loved ones of the deceased officers. The command said it would provide verified updates as appropriate while the investigation proceeds.
