The University of Ghana has directed undergraduate students who finish the 2025/2026 academic year with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) below 1.00 to withdraw from their programmes, according to a notice issued by the university’s Academic Affairs Directorate.
The directive, announced on October 22, 2026, is based on Section 9.26 of the University Regulations for Junior Members (2017), which outlines the academic requirements students must meet to progress to the next level.
Under the regulation, students must maintain a minimum CGPA of 1.00 and satisfy any additional academic requirements set by their respective schools or departments. The university’s notice states that there is no provision for academic probation under this rule.
Consequently, students whose CGPAs remain below the required threshold after all grades for their registered courses have been released will be considered not to be in good academic standing and will be required to withdraw from their programmes.
The university has instructed affected students to check their academic records through its Management Information System (MIS) Web portal to confirm their CGPA.
Students are then required to log in to the Student and Staff Portal (STS) at https://sts.ug.edu.gh/services using their student identification numbers and PINs. They should select the “Withdrawal Request” option to initiate the process.
However, the university noted that some schools or departments would handle the withdrawal process on behalf of students in certain programmes. The notice did not specify which programmes fall under this arrangement.
Students who are uncertain about their academic status or the required procedure have been advised to contact their respective College Academic Offices for clarification.
Beyond the administrative process, the university has indicated that its Careers and Counselling Directorate is available to provide support and guidance to affected students.
The directive highlights the importance of meeting the institution’s academic progression requirements, particularly as students complete the academic year and prepare for the next stage of their studies.
For students concerned about their results, the university’s guidance is to verify their CGPA through the official portal and seek clarification from the appropriate academic office.
The directive applies to undergraduate students whose CGPA falls below 1.00 at the end of the 2025/2026 academic year. It does not mean that every student with a low grade is automatically affected; the stated threshold is a cumulative GPA below 1.00.
