Meta is taking its artificial intelligence ambitions beyond smartphones and smart glasses with a new pocket-sized device called Muse Charm.
Unveiled during Meta’s annual Connect event, the gadget is designed to bring the company’s Muse personal AI assistant into a small, physical device that can be carried in a pocket or attached to a keychain. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg described it as a “joyful little device.”
The Muse Charm has a small screen that displays a customizable digital character representing the Muse AI assistant, giving the device a look reminiscent of the popular Tamagotchi digital pets of the 1990s. Users can interact with Muse through real-time voice conversations without needing to unlock a smartphone or open an app.
Meta says the device includes a fingerprint sensor that allows users to quickly activate Muse. It also features microphones and speakers, while reported specifications include cameras and 5G connectivity. The cameras are designed to give Muse visual context about the user’s surroundings and help it respond to what the user is seeing.
The device is also customizable. Users will be able to change the appearance and voice of their Muse character, while two Muse Charm devices can reportedly recognize and interact with each other when placed nearby. Setup and synchronization will be handled through the Muse app on iPhone and Android.
Meta is positioning the Charm as another way to access its growing personal-AI ecosystem. Zuckerberg said the device could provide the fastest way to communicate with Muse when a user is not wearing Meta’s AI glasses.
The Muse Charm is not yet available for purchase. Meta says it plans to begin shipping the device in December, ahead of the holiday season. The company has not revealed an official price, although reports indicate it could be priced around the level of a smartwatch.
The launch reflects Meta’s broader push to make AI a more constant part of everyday life, moving the technology from apps and computer screens into wearable and dedicated physical devices.
