Air Peace Diverts Lagos–Asaba Flight Back to Lagos Over Poor Visibility

Air Peace has diverted a flight from Lagos to Asaba back to Lagos after poor visibility around the runway at Asaba Airport made it unsafe to land.

The affected flight, P47860, was scheduled to operate from Lagos to Asaba on Thursday, August 27, 2026. According to the airline, the aircraft was unable to land because of the reduced visibility around the runway.

Air Peace spokesperson Osifo-Whiskey Efe said the unexpected diversion disrupted the affected flight and could lead to delays on other flights across the airline’s network.

The airline apologised to passengers for the inconvenience and reiterated that the safety and wellbeing of passengers and crew remain its top priority.

Flight diversions are a standard safety measure when weather or airport conditions make a landing unsafe. In this case, returning to Lagos allowed the aircraft to avoid attempting a landing under unsuitable visibility conditions.

Because aircraft operate multiple routes throughout the day, the diversion is expected to have a knock-on effect on some other Air Peace services.

Passengers travelling with the airline have therefore been advised to check for updates regarding their individual flights.

The incident highlights how quickly adverse weather conditions can disrupt domestic air travel, particularly when visibility around an airport runway falls below safe operating requirements.
