Social media influencer and activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has expressed his willingness to honour an invitation from the Nigeria Police Force over allegations he made against Moshood Jimoh. However, he says his appearance will be subject to conditions aimed at ensuring transparency throughout the investigative process.
The position was made public in a statement released on Wednesday by his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, through his Instagram page. According to the statement, VeryDarkMan has no objection to cooperating with the police but believes the investigation should be conducted in a manner that inspires public confidence, given the high-profile nature of the case.
The controversy began after the Nigeria Police Force invited the influencer to appear before the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja to provide evidence supporting the allegations he made against AIG Moshood Jimoh, who oversees the Zone 2 Police Command.
In an earlier statement, the Force Public Relations Officer, Ani Iniedu, said the police remain committed to upholding due process, institutional discipline, and the rule of law while handling the matter.
The police also clarified that the criminal case referenced in VeryDarkMan’s public comments had already been investigated and was currently before a competent court following legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions. According to the Force, the judiciary—not public opinion or media discussions—will ultimately determine the outcome of the case.
Emphasising its commitment to fairness, the Nigeria Police Force stated that it would not allow the matter to be decided through media narratives or public campaigns. It further confirmed that AIG Moshood Jimoh had also been invited by the FCID for questioning regarding the allegations raised against him, while VeryDarkMan received a formal invitation dated July 30, 2026, requesting that he provide evidence to support his claims.
Responding to the invitation, VeryDarkMan’s legal team welcomed the police investigation and reiterated that their client has never resisted any lawful inquiry.
The lawyers maintained that the activist is ready, willing, and available to appear before investigators whenever lawfully required. They added that he appreciates the decision by the Nigeria Police Force to officially examine the issues he raised and intends to fully cooperate with the process.
However, the legal team argued that because the case has attracted widespread public attention and involves a senior-ranking police officer, the investigation should be conducted with a high level of openness and accountability.
To ensure transparency, the lawyers requested that the interview be observed by representatives of the Nigerian Bar Association, civil society organisations, and other independent observers. They believe the presence of neutral observers would help eliminate any possibility of misinformation or misrepresentation during the process.
The statement also insisted that VeryDarkMan’s legal representative be allowed to accompany him and remain present throughout the interview to safeguard his legal rights.
The latest development marks another chapter in the ongoing dispute between the activist and the Nigeria Police Force. As investigations continue, public attention remains focused on how the authorities handle the case and whether the process will meet the transparency standards being requested by VeryDarkMan and his legal team.
