Victor Osimhen Reveals Plans to Return to School and Earn a University Degree

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has revealed that one of his biggest ambitions beyond football is to return to school and earn a university degree, emphasizing that education remains an important part of his future despite his remarkable success on the pitch.

The Nigerian international made the revelation during an interview that recently resurfaced online, where he reflected on the value of education, the lessons life has taught him, and the importance of preparing for life after professional football.

Osimhen explained that while his journey has equipped him with valuable experiences outside the classroom, he still believes there is great value in completing his formal education. According to the Galatasaray forward, life itself has been one of his greatest teachers, but he has never abandoned the desire to further his academic qualifications.

The 2023 African Footballer of the Year noted that a football career, no matter how successful, is temporary. He acknowledged that professional athletes have limited years at the top level and stressed the importance of preparing for life after retirement.

For that reason, Osimhen said he is seriously considering returning to school to obtain a university degree, describing it as a personal goal he hopes to achieve in the future.

Beyond his personal ambition, the Nigerian star said he wants his decision to serve as an inspiration to young people who may have been forced to abandon their education because of financial difficulties or other life challenges. He believes that leaving school at one stage of life should not prevent anyone from returning later to complete their education.

According to Osimhen, education remains accessible regardless of age, and he hopes his journey will encourage others to believe that it is never too late to continue learning and pursuing academic success.

His comments have resonated with many Nigerians, particularly because of his own remarkable rise from humble beginnings to becoming one of the world’s top footballers. Before achieving international fame, Osimhen faced numerous personal and financial challenges that shaped his determination and resilience.

Born in Edo State, Osimhen first captured global attention after finishing as the highest goalscorer at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup, where he played a key role in helping Nigeria lift the trophy. His performances earned him opportunities in Europe, beginning with German club VfL Wolfsburg before successful spells with Belgian side Charleroi and French club Lille.

In 2020, he completed a high-profile move to Italian giants Napoli, where he enjoyed the most successful period of his club career. Osimhen won the Serie A Golden Boot and played a pivotal role in ending Napoli’s 33-year wait for the Italian league title, cementing his place among Europe’s elite strikers.

He later joined Turkish champions Galatasaray, where he has continued to impress with his goalscoring ability and consistent performances.

Off the pitch, Osimhen has consistently used his platform to advocate for education and youth development. Earlier this year, during a visit to Beyond Limits Football Academy in Ikenne, Ogun State, he encouraged young footballers not to neglect their education while pursuing their sporting dreams.

During the visit, the Super Eagles vice-captain donated ₦10 million to support the academy’s development and reminded aspiring players that while football talent can open doors, education provides valuable opportunities and security beyond an athletic career.

Osimhen’s latest remarks reinforce a message he has consistently shared throughout his career—that success in sports and education can go hand in hand. As one of Africa’s biggest football stars, his commitment to returning to the classroom serves as a powerful reminder that learning is a lifelong journey and that preparing for life after football is just as important as achieving success on the field.
