President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on residents and business owners in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to fulfill their tax obligations, pay ground rents, and settle other statutory charges, emphasizing that government revenue is essential for sustaining infrastructure development across Abuja.
The President made the appeal during the inauguration of the completed Arterial Road N5, a major transportation corridor connecting Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III in the Dape District of Abuja. The project is expected to ease traffic movement, improve connectivity, and support economic activities in several rapidly developing communities within the capital city.
Represented at the event by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu stressed that infrastructure development requires active participation from citizens through timely payment of taxes and land-related charges.
According to the President, compliance with tax and ground rent obligations provides the financial resources needed for the government to execute more development projects and improve public services across the FCT.
He noted that the newly completed road demonstrates his administration’s commitment to delivering projects from conception to completion, rather than leaving them abandoned. Tinubu recalled that during the commissioning of an earlier phase of the road project in 2025, he had assured residents that the remaining section would be completed.
The President said the fulfillment of that promise reflects the objectives of his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes the completion of strategic projects that directly impact the lives of citizens.
Awarded in October 2024, the road project was completed within the approved timeline, a development Tinubu described as evidence of a more efficient and results-driven approach to public infrastructure delivery.
Beyond improving transportation, the new corridor is expected to significantly enhance connectivity between key districts, including Dape, Karmo, Gwarinpa, Kado, Mbora, and Idu. The project is also projected to stimulate economic growth by improving access to commercial hubs and industrial centers within the capital.
One of the major benefits highlighted by the President is the direct connection the road provides to the Idu Industrial District, a strategic economic zone in Abuja. Improved access to the area is expected to reduce transportation and logistics costs for businesses, attract new investments, and create employment opportunities for residents.
Tinubu further stated that infrastructure remains a critical component of national development and that continued investment in roads, transportation networks, and industrial access routes will help unlock economic potential across the country.
During the event, the President also commended Nyesom Wike and the FCT Administration for what he described as their commitment to delivering tangible infrastructure projects. He praised the administration’s focus on accountability and execution, noting that public funds should always translate into visible results for citizens.
Speaking earlier, Wike highlighted the significant increase in infrastructure projects delivered in the FCT since the beginning of the Tinubu administration. He revealed that the ongoing anniversary celebrations of the administration would feature the commissioning of a record number of completed projects across Abuja.
The opening of Arterial Road N5 adds to a growing list of infrastructure developments aimed at improving mobility, supporting economic activities, and enhancing the overall quality of life for residents of Nigeria’s capital city.
