Former Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu’s Sister and Twin Sons Kidnapped in Ibadan

Tension gripped residents of Ibadan on Wednesday after the younger sister of former Minister of Power and 2027 governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adebayo Adelabu, was reportedly kidnapped alongside her twin sons. The victims, identified as Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin boys, Peter and Paul, were abducted in the Challenge area of Ibadan South West Local Government Area of Oyo State.

According to a statement released by one of Adelabu’s media aides, Femi Awogboro, the incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, while Mrs. John-Paul was driving her children to school. The statement revealed that armed gunmen intercepted the vehicle and forcefully whisked away the mother and her children, leaving family members and residents in shock.

Mrs. John-Paul, 43, is said to be the youngest among the five children of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu. Before voluntarily retiring last year, she reportedly worked with the Central Bank of Nigeria and later with First Bank Pension Custodian.

Following her retirement, she relocated to Ibadan with her children while making plans to reunite with her husband, Mr. John Paul, who had earlier moved to the United States.

The family confirmed that security agencies were immediately contacted after the abduction, adding that investigations and rescue efforts are already underway.

In the statement, the family expressed confidence in the ability of security operatives to secure the safe release of the victims and bring those responsible for the crime to justice.

“Adebayo Adelabu and the entire family are deeply distressed by this tragic development but remain hopeful and confident in the capacity of the security agencies to secure the safe release of Mrs. John-Paul and her children,” the statement read.

The family also appealed to the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information that could interfere with ongoing security operations.

The kidnapping has once again raised concerns over insecurity and the increasing cases of abduction across parts of Nigeria, particularly involving high-profile individuals and their families.
