Ten Men Convicted Over Stoke-on-Trent Arson Attack That Left Mother and Daughter Severely Burned

Ten men have been convicted in connection with a devastating arson attack in Stoke-on-Trent that left a mother fighting for her life and her teenage daughter seriously injured. The shocking incident, which unfolded in December 2021, has now concluded in court following an extensive trial.

After an 11-week hearing at Nottingham Crown Court, five men were found guilty of their roles in the attack. Five others had previously admitted offences linked to the same violent incident. All ten have been remanded in custody and will be sentenced at a later date.

According to Staffordshire Police, the violence stemmed from a confrontation earlier that day. On the afternoon of 16 December 2021, a group of men were involved in a fight on Kildare Street in the Longton area of the city. During the altercation, one man sustained a stab wound to his shoulder and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Later that evening, just before 11:00 p.m., several men went to a property on Beverley Drive in the Bentilee area, reportedly seeking revenge. Police said the group smashed the downstairs windows and poured petrol inside the hallway near the front door and outside near the living room window before setting it alight.

Inside the home were a 31-year-old mother and her 13-year-old daughter. The woman was struck on the head before being set on fire, suffering burns to approximately 65% of her body. At one stage, medical professionals did not expect her to survive. She remained in a coma for two months.

Although she ultimately pulled through, her injuries are life-changing. She suffered multiple fractures, including a broken pelvis and ribs, as well as a lacerated liver. After escaping the blaze by smashing an upstairs window and jumping to safety, she had to relearn how to walk. Doctors say she will require ongoing medical care for the rest of her life.

Her daughter sustained burns to 15% of her body, affecting her right arm and leg. Both survived an attack that investigators described as calculated and deeply disturbing.

Detective Constable Howard Davies of Staffordshire Police called the incident “a horrific ordeal,” highlighting the trauma of a mother being set on fire in her own home in front of her child. Authorities said the convictions send a strong message about the consequences of revenge-fueled violence.

The case has left a lasting impact on the local community in Stoke-on-Trent, raising concerns about escalating disputes and the devastating ripple effects of violent retaliation. As the victims continue their long road to recovery, the court now prepares to determine the sentences for those responsible for one of the area’s most shocking crimes in recent years.
