Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has revealed that he turned down a staggering $15 billion offer for the NFL franchise, making it clear that the team is not for sale and will remain under family control.
Speaking in a recent interview with Bloomberg Newsmakers, Ross confirmed for the first time that he plans to pass ownership of the Dolphins to his son-in-law, Daniel Sillman. The veteran businessman emphasized that he sees the franchise as a long-term family asset rather than a business to cash out, even at a record-breaking valuation.
Ross acquired the Dolphins in 2009, initially purchasing a 50 percent stake for $1 billion from former owner Wayne Huizenga before assuming full ownership. Since then, the franchise’s value has soared, with current estimates placing it at nearly $7.5 billion, ranking it among the most valuable teams in the National Football League.
Despite the massive growth in value and interest from potential buyers, Ross said he never seriously considered selling. According to him, the decision to keep the team in the family reflects both personal pride and confidence in its future. He described the Dolphins as one of the best assets he owns and stressed that continuity matters more to him than maximizing profit.
Ross also confirmed that Daniel Sillman is his chosen successor. Sillman, who has a background in sports and previously worked with Ross before marrying his daughter, is currently the CEO of Relevent, a global sports media and events company best known for managing commercial rights for major European football competitions, including the UEFA Champions League.
Praising his son-in-law’s leadership and experience, Ross said he believes Sillman is well-equipped to guide the Dolphins into the future. With strong ties to both American and global sports industries, Sillman represents a new generation of ownership that blends business expertise with modern sports management.
For Dolphins fans, the announcement signals long-term stability at the top of the organization. While blockbuster sales have become increasingly common across professional sports, Ross’s decision underscores his commitment to Miami and his belief that the franchise’s best days are still ahead.
